Saunaplant #2: Red Strawberry

Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa): The Algonquin people [think OG Upper East Siders of Canada] called the strawberry the "seeded heart berry," and named the 1st full moon of June the strawberry moon to mark the harvest season. It was sacred to Freya (Goddess of Fertility & Magic), carved into medieval church altars, and wrapped in centuries of symbolism. Fittingly, it’s full of surprises... see below:

Despite the name, a strawberry isn’t actually a berry. True berries [like a Banana or Blueberry] keep their seeds inside. A strawberry puts its tiny fruits (the yellow specks, called achenes) on the outside. Our Strawberry hat: deceptively sweet, and botanically a bit of a rebel.
